February 2019: Christchurch Cathedral Roof Refurbishment underway in Waterford City.

We are returning to Christchurch Cathedral again this time to begin much needed roof repairs following on from the number of storms over the last two years. Unfortunately the Cathedral roof’s existing natural slate covering has suffered considerable damage. It is always a pleasure to be working on a building of such historic importance and for clients who really appreciate the integrity of their building . The client and the architects have strived manfully to secure adequate funding over the last eighteen months to carry out as much of the repairs as they possibly can. We will be removing the existing slates, battens, felt and lead work. All will be replaced with a new natural slate covering in the new year. The works will be overseen by Dan Casey and Nick Furness who have been busy on a similar but smaller project in Tramore on the Historic Railway Station. Tom O’Brien’s have an enviable reputation in the conservation field and we are confident that the timely repairs carried out on  the Cathedral will ensure its life well into the future. Our expertise in the repair and restoration of substantial natural slate roofs is second to none in the south east of the country.
